Who said it? And did they actually say it?

Sometimes the actor said the exact line but sometimes crowd-sourced memories remember it as a different (often better) line. Who said these lines and did they actually say that line?

Try these ten quotes and let me know how it went!

Who said it? Sherlock Holmes in various films.

Who said it? Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment) in the movie The Sixth Sense.

Did they say it? Yes. To, oddly enough, (spoiler alert …) a dead person.

Who said it? Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) in the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz.

Did they say it? No. The actual line is “Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” Also, the line was never used in the books, in The Wiz nor in the Wicked movies.

Who said it? Harvey Logan (Ted Cassidy, famous for playing Lurch in the original Addams Famly TV show) just before getting it in the nuts from Butch Cassidy (Paul Newman).

Did they say it? Close, but no. The actual line is “Rules? In a knife fight?”

Who said it? Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) in the movie Casablanca to the pianist Sam (Dooley Wilson).

Did they say it? No. The actual line is “Play it once, Sam. For old times’ sake.”

Who said it? Hanibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins) to Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) towards the end of the movie The Silence of the Lambs

Did they say it? Yes. Although the actual quote is longer: “I do wish we could chat longer, but… I’m having an old friend for dinner.”

Who said it? “Bluto” Blutarsky (John Belush) in the movie Animal House as he is drumming up support to have a toga party.

Did they say it? Yes. (==> insert Donald Trump reference here <==).

Who said it? Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) to Scarlett O’Hara (Vivien Leigh) towards the end of Gone with the Wind.

Did they say it? No. The actual quote is “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn”. In the book it’s “My dear, I don’t give a damn.” (Fun fact: I’ve never seen this movie!)

Who said it? Practically everybody in every Hunger Games movie, but maybe most noticeably by President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the first movie The Hunger Games.

Did they say it? Yes, over and over Yes.

Who said it? Anna Scott (Julia Roberts) to William Thacker (Hugh Grant) in the rom-com Notting Hill.

Did they say it? Yes, sometimes people forget the “also” but this is the acual quote.
