Twins are born to the Mulligan family
Extrovert Dylan, then introvert Lou
Best friends forever, arch enemies too
At school or at home, one thing remains true
They get into trouble, as boys will do.
A prank accidentally damages the neighborhood “haunted” house
Dad says we’ll fix, tells the owner the plans
An old garbageman with time on his hands
Even his union mates find the boys fun
Honorary retired local sixty-one
Their mom works as the pastry chef at a downtown hotel
The boys hang out as she does the kneading
At a convention, tarot card reading
The seer won’t share Dylan’s results, instead
Its Lou that gets hit with panic and dread
High school starts carefree, ends badly
When Dylan’s genetic heart defect is found
The family decides to close rank around
Some good days, some bad, it’s all hard to say
But one night Dylan quietly slips away
Lou is lost, cast adrift
Moves to Seattle in hopes to start anew
But soon returns the same lost, lonely Lou
Long walks instead of school, he has no drive
Comes across the coffee shop Java Jive
Lou gets the job as the morning pastry chef at Java Jive
With mom’s hints, he rises to mediocre
Befriends the older handyman Roger
Computers and chess with a customer Tyr
Both will play roles in Lou’s future
Lou loses his dorm room as Roger gets evicted
With that all hope is gone without a trace
Until local sixty-one finds them a place
Money is a problem, as it is with many
Then Tyr hires Lou for his software company
Lou’s first day could not go any worse
Right away panic in the elevator
Who knew it would get even worse later
All his teammates are especially geeky
Who knew a first day could be so freaky
Lou knuckles down and begins work in earnest
He begins to get the lay of the land
Less dirty looks coming from Jonathan
With endless help from Ganesh and Priam
The end result is pandemonium
Suddenly things are looking up
When Tyr finds funds to complete the first phase
These are the happiest of happy days
Now sky high, inches from failure, kaput
There’s no denying that the game is afoot
